Gio Ponti was the founder of FontanaArte since 1932, the first Italian company to establish itself in the interior design sector. Partnered by many leading names in international architecture, the company developed a solid design background combining the skill of artisan with a pioneering outlook. The 1980s were a time of a dynamic cultural renewal of Fontana Arte. The Compasso d`Oro award (1998) acknowledged the creative milieu evolving under the new owners, led by Carlo Gugliemi, and its art director Gae Aulenti.
